Whiskey + Poems
Today, during work… a bunch of us played several rounds of isketch towards the end of the day. Oh man, what a great way to waste time! And honestly, it was really super-fucking fun to do that, after this week. Everyone seemed pretty tired/exhausted, and this was a great way to get all geeky and playful.
After work, I dipped over to Holiday and was able to slip inside before they opened. The side door was cracked a bit and, when I peeked in and asked when they opened… the bartender told me to come on in.
All day today, I’ve been looking forward to hitting a bar after work, cracking open a book of poems and throwing back some whiskey. This morning, I grabbed a copy of the collected poems of Yehuda Amichai. When I went over the poems I’ve dog-eared, I couldn’t stop smiling and muttering how good of a fucking poet this guy is.
For what it’s worth, I spent about an hour at Holiday, just looking over poems and trying to jot down some notes. Before I left, I ended up copying "A Dog After Love" onto a piece of paper, and left it at my table. Maybe the waitress found it. I hope she liked it enough to keep it.
Yehuda Amichai is a god damn rock star. You’re gonna see his work over the next few weeks on the blog.
