Who’s Next?

This is something I’ve been meaning to post on here for a while now. This is a site that we launched recently at work: Who’s Next Online.
Basically, this site gives you the ability to listen to mp3 files that other people have posted, of their own music. It’s a hiphop focused site, and anyone can listen to any of the tracks. However, in order to actually “rate” a track, you have to sign up and become a member (which is free). Once you’re a member, you can also create your own Artist Profile. And from there, you can post pics of yourself, update your bio information, and upload mp3 tracks of your music.
This site is by far one of the more complex projects we’ve undertaken at work, and I’m immeasureably proud of it. All of us have pitched in, in one form or another, and I’m just digging the fact that this thing is growing, day by day.
I think we might have soft launched it two weeks ago? And we’re coming really close to about 1000 members (and I don’t know how many tracks). I have to confess – I’m not a big fan of hiphop. But there’s something oddly compelling about sifting through these hopeful musicians, and checking out what they have to offer. Be forewarned: there are typos aplenty and ALL CAPS EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK. And as fun as it is to look through some of the amazingly outrageous bios… every once in a while, I think you’ll stumble across something you’ll genuinely like.
I really am quite proud of this site. We were all working our asses off trying to get it launched, and it’s just cool to see it take a life of its own.
And hey – here’s something kind of cool. Remember way back, when I talked about creating an audiplayer? You know – that thing that’s on the right? Well, a lot of that code went in to the Flash components on this site. I dunno – that makes me feel kinda good. :)
