Rob’s Opening, Better Late Than Never
Elissa has been calling me the past few days, and we’ve played phone tag, trying to coordinate a time where we could both visit Rob’s gallery and see his work. Rob, along with his good friend Jake, share gallery space together. They both wrote up separate "Artist Statements", and I thought I’d enclose snippets from both:
"I use simple tools to cut simple shapes to make a simple statement about a simple world that we have made complex."
-Jake
"mending broken things with gold to celebrate and accentuate the cracks touching everything you walk past and seeing where your finger fits wiggling things to see what sounds they make thinking recreationally"
-Rob
I walked with Elissa to Rob’s gallery, and though we were promised that it was open… we met wth a closed and locked door. We peered through the window for a while, and talked about our views on the artistic process, on what the end product should entail, and how the "viewer" should react. It was a neat conversation, and I took a shot of what the gallery window looked like, with the sun and the reflection:
Within 30 minutes, Rob showed up and someone came by who had keys to the gallery. We hung out inside, and looked at the artwork, and talked a bit with Rob. To see a more intimate view of Rob and Jake’s work, check out their website.
