Bordeaux, Day 1: Travel and Arrival at Château de Lescours

Big travel day – grabbed an evening flight out of O’Hare, stopping first with a layover in Paris, and a connecting flight to Bordeaux. Liz and I are joining the Holder family, as well as the Ford family, for several days together at Château de Lescours.

The direct flight from Chicago > Bordeaux was a bit pricey, so we opted for a layover in Paris (CDG). Walking to our connecting flight.

Liz tried all the things, but wasn’t able to sleep much at all. I napped for a brief bit, and was surprisingly ok with how little I actually slept.

Fast forward a bit – after landing in Bordeaux and making our way to the car rental, we drove a bit out of the city to our destination: a week’s stay at Château de Lescours.

Walking the grounds slightly, taking a few photos as I go. Looking forward to walking around a lot more.

Next to where we’re staying, there was a barn filled with a lot of the tractors and equipment used to keep the vineyard going. I had to fight the urge to go in and look around, to see what tools and devices they used.

Also alongside the building where we were staying – a small pigeon coop.

Hanging out with the birds.

Looking to the South east, at the top of some old stairs leading down (across a moat) to the grape vines.

All around the grounds, there were these fantastic statues. These guys were right by the pool (another great amenity, attached to our building).

A view of one of the other buildings.

Another building, this one directly across from where we were staying.

Another view of the steps leading across the moat, to the southeast. Just standing here was amazing.

A friend, standing guard near the top of the stairs.

Another view from the steps.

Inside the first floor common area: a huge space with a kitchen, an impossibly long table, and a living room area.

There were ten of us in total: the Holder family (Kirt, Anne, Jackson, Grace), the Ford family (Tricia, Paige, Audrey, Sebastian), and me and Liz.
