Long Day, Short Night
Well, I was at work until 6, 6:30 or so… stayed to get some Flash work ironed out. THe whole time I thought there was something screwy with my actionscript… but it turned out to be latency issues with our server. Doh! Just about tore my hair out on that one, trying to diagnose what was wrong. In the end… it wasn’t my work. Good to learn. :)
Afterwards, Justin and I met up with Emma at Dumphry’s – the bar inside the Merchandise Mart. We had a few beers, and Justin and I got to talking about a side project he wanted to complete for work. Well, lo and behold… we get a bit sidetracked and come up with a pretty strong idea for a web site.
I’m pretty excited by it – despite the fact that it’s form differs from my original idea. I look forward to talking to Justin more about this concept (we may try to make all/some elements Flash-based), as well as getting Ben and Alex more involved.
To not give too much away, it will follow more of the Amazon model… where users will supply the content. Ideally. We’re going to hash out more concepts before this weekend, possibly working Saturday and Sunday to get this thing mapped out. Pretty exciting, actually. My original thought stemmed from a more image-based concept, but we both agreed that an image-based approach would quickly become difficult to manage.
This is going to be fun. Unlike the T-shirt idea, every aspect of this particular project is absolutely within our grasp. Every technical angle, every component – we can execute. That’s what’s really exciting, and what I believe will separate this idea from the countless other "good intentions" that seem to find their way to the backburners.
