Big Breakfast
Every year, around this time, the Sales department puts on a rather remarkable breakfast. Sometime shortly after 9/11, instead of getting a ton of catered food… they decided to host/do everything themselves. From about 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM, it’s a striclty Sales-Only party. But after that, they open the doors and invite everyone else in the station.
Whatever you can imagine for breakfast… it’s there.
They set up several burners in the hallway near the mailroom, and Nick ends up cooking omelettes for anyone that wants one. This morning, I placed my order, got a Bloody Mary (heavy on the vodka), and proceeded to get a little tipsy prior. To make things worse, one of the Sales folk came by and, before I knew it, shoved a thin slice of Jello into my mouth. I hesitated, and she said “Don’t question it. Just eat it.” As I chewed, I realized it was a Jello shot. ![]()
Needless to say, the rest of my morning was rather chipper. :)
To top things off, Tony (one of our webmasters from St. Louis) was in for an informal meeting/talk. He’s looking to increase his role, and we had plans to talk about a lot of Flash-related stuff. When he showed up, I met him in the lobby (with a drink in my hand). Despite the fact that everyone else was festive at the breakfast party, it felt a bit awkward to greet him while half in the bag.—–
