Shame and apologies
I woke up and felt kinda woozy all day. Perhaps it was because I only had a few hours sleep yesterday. Perhaps it was due to the fact that I hadn’t eaten any dinner yesterday. Perhaps it was because of the four healthy glasses of whiskey I consumed. Maybe that had something to do with it.
I woke up and found two messages on my answering machine. From the restaurant. ![]()
First, I called up Liz and Steph and left them a message. Basically, it was a sweeping, generic apology message, as I can’t really remember anything I said or did towards the end of the evening. In case I embarassed myself yesterday, I figured I’d apologize just to be safe.
I then tried to call the restaurant. After speaking with the lady taking orders, I tried to tell her the situation. She took down my phone number and told me that the manager would give me a call back. I waited and, around 7:30 PM, I gave the restaurant a call back. I spoke with the manager, and he told me they had just gone ahead and cancelled my card: I wouldn’t be charged for the food.
I thanked him, but then asked that I be charged the amount. It was my fault that I passed out fell asleep, and I insisted that I pay for the food. The manager refused, claiming that I didn’t even receive the food. I argued back, saying that it was immaterial: I placed the order.
And I swear to God, for a solid five minutes, we went back and forth, arguing. Arguing! The man refuses to back down, and even though I keep pressing him, he refuses to charge me. He says that he ended up eating the sushi that I ordered, so everything was ok. I give in, and he tells me he’s just happy to have me as a customer, and to not worry. :)—–
