AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA FUCK YOU, I WIN

God dammit. I’m fucking good at what I do. I just need to say that, for myself.

I was going to knock off for sleep around midnight. But work stuff was nagging at me in my head. I’ve been working on this bracket dealie in Flash. So far this week, it’s been full of meetings and phone calls and I haven’t really had a chance to really get my hands dirty with this particular project.

Quick summary: 64 bands, set up tourny style. The interface is Flash, and users need to be able to select who wins for each pairing. Winner moves on to the next slot. The whole playing area is technically in four quadrants, and so far I’ve been wrestling with coding just one quadrant.

I finally got to do some work this afternoon, but most of my time today was spent making notes and scrawling out (in psuedo-AS) exactly what I needed to do, step-by-step. It’s been frustrating because this deadline’s looming, but all my work has been prep work… I had nothing to really show for it. And to be honest, I was feeling a little “slow” because it was taking me so long to figure some of the logic out.

Ooh, one other thing – I’m trying to abstract this particular project out, since it’ll most likely see re-use (either by other radio stations for band/song battles, or for sports. So far, it’s only one real mc on the stage (manually placed though, and not dynamically created… yet).

I’ve got each clip identified based on quadrant number (1-4), column number (1-5) and top-down stacking order (1-16). I’ve also identified each movie’s peer (who it’s paired up with) and superior (the next spot where it will advance) coded out. Restraints: You can’t promote a band unless its peer is populated. If you have already made a choice (between A and B, you said A would win) and go back and switch your answer… I’ve got a function that will clear out subsequent choices.

In retrospect, maybe this isn’t all that terribly cool. But it felt like it to me! Up until the past few hours, I’ve really done nothing beyond scribble notes. And it all sort of gushed out and I wasn’t even really working. In an odd way, it felt like writing to some degree, where for moments I was just transcribing more than anything else. For a few lines, the logical side of my brain had shut off. I was typing in code and it wasn’t until afterwards when I stopped to look at it that I thought “Ok. That makes sense. That works.” Autopilot! That was a neat thing to realize.

I now feel a pretty good sense of accomplishment for the day. Although, I guess it IS 4:15 AM. Heh.

There’s still a lot more work to be done, but I’m feeling somewhat less stress about my deadline now than I did at the start of the evening. After more than half of this week lost to minor tasks, I feel very, very productive right now.

And tired. So very, very tired. :)
