My Shuffle

So today, we officially launched My Shuffle – an application that everyone in our group has had a hand in building. Matt, Kashif and Justin laid out the foundational work for the artist database (which will eventually hook into a ton of our future applications). Ben developed the primary branding elements, and Chris helped animate the masthead and skyscraper modules. I got the fun job (and I really mean this) of wiring up the app proper, and Justin had the rough task of pulling in all of the artists and songs that comprise Q101’s total playlist.
A few months back, Q101 went “on shuffle,” digging farther back into its archives and playing a lot of varied songs, randomly. As of today, the station will be utilizing this application to garner playlist submissions from its listeners… and picking certain playlists to play on the air. Starting with this weekend, the station will be selecting winning playlists – with the listeners pretty much choosing what they want to hear (complete with audio intructions from the winning playlist makers).
Pretty neat stuff.
If you care to check it out, click here. You have to be a member of the Q101 club to actually submit a playlist, but you can probably get a sense of what it looks like via the link. But I’d encourage you to do it – it’s a pretty cool little app, if I do say so myself. :)
