City of Lost Children

A few weeks back, I ended up watching Amélie with Liz for the first time. I had heard great things about this movie, but just never got around to seeing it. Now – I’m kicking myself for waiting as long as I did.

As the movie progressed, I noticed a few other actors that I recognized. Soon enough, the style of the movie made me think of two other French films I liked: Delicatessen and City of Lost Children.

Last night, we ended up watching City of Lost Children – it’s been years since I’ve seen this, and it’s as quirky as I remember (quirkier, even).

This morning, I remembered that I found something crazy – right when I first moved to Chicago. I think it was in some video store, in a bargain bin somewhere. Behold – the City of Lost Children video game!

It’s for the original Playstation and, if memory serves, I tried playing it once or twice. I don’t remember much, and while I still have that Playstation somewhere in the apartment… it’s pretty busted up. One of these days, I’ll have to fire this game up and give it another whirl.

Seeing this game again, it’s pretty amazing. I keep thinking – wow! A video game based on the movie City of Lost Children! And then soon after, I keep thinking – wow! Why would someone make such a thing?
