House for Sale: 100 Dollars, 500 Words
James Mathias purchased a home in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Its current market value is around $180,000 – $190,000, and is less than what he paid for it originally. So… rather than sell it out on the open market, he’s decided to create a contest, and to give the house away.
If you want a chance to win his house, all you need to do is write a 500 word essay on why you deserve to win the house… and to include $100 with your entry. If he gets 2,500 entries, a winner will be selected, and awarded the home. If he doesn’t get enough entries? He says he’ll return everyone’s money.
What if you don’t want ot live in Bonners Ferry, Idaho? No problem – just rent the place out or, better yet, simply sell the house. Anything over $100… profit.
This seems to me a pretty brilliant idea. And my hunch is that he’ll get way more than the 2,500 entries. My guess – he’ll be making the rounds on talk shows before the week’s out.
The contest is cancelled. I’d totally live in Bonner’s Ferry, it’s beautiful. :(
