Múm
Alright. I’m not one to typically care for "electronic" music. In fact, I’m not even sure if that’s the right term for this particular category of music. My understanding of music (outside of basic music theory) is woefully inadequate.
Enter my friends.
Justin leant me a CD today. I had heard snippets of it when we were performing some global conversions on the Emmis sites.
Right now, I’ve got on a band called Múm. Their official site is still under construction, but one of their fan sites seems to be working.
I’m listening to a song called "Smell Memory," off of their album "Yesterday Was Dramatic." It’s literally making my toes curl. Ordinarily, this isn’t my style of music – but the sounds and the syncopation are really catchy. Behind all the noise, I can detect a very clear sense of intent, structure, reasoning. Even though it sounds like it, it’s not a bunch of random sounds thrown together haphazardly. I can detect traces of a blueprint.
Maybe this is why my old roommate Jim liked Industrial music so much…
