Two Things I Saw Today
I’m not sure what my problem is. Twice today, I had good opportunities to take photographs and/or talk to strangers. But I didn’t, on both counts. Kicking myself a bit about it. Really should have, especially in the second case. Oh well – maybe I need to get back into the swing of taking pictures again, really just holding the camera at all times.
This morning, on the train, I was standing behind a girl who had her back to me. From my viewpoint, I could see down into her purse, which was opened. Inside, I saw the spine of a London Travel Guide sort of book. The purse was black, and this guide was bright white – really stuck out. At that moment, I imagined her to have some overwhelming urge to leave, almost to the point of fleeing… a desire to leave the blandness behind, in search for some more exotic, exciting future. I had this strong sense of it, I almost wanted to ask her what she was running away from.
On the way back home from work, I saw a kid wearing a leather jacket, backpack, littered with tons of square patches of fabric, each with their own slogan or saying. One of them said "Radio Still Sucks." I wanted ot take a picture of that, and to ask him what he thought radio should do to improve.
Lately, at Q101, Nikki has been putting a show together called TBA. I don’t have all the specifics on it yet, but I’ll get some more of the info tomorrow. Honestly trying to promote "alternative" music, and trying to use the A word like it was meant to be used. Some interesting bands they’re playing, and none of it comes from any sort of label-based directive. A really cool concept, actually. More on this tomorrow.
