Iberico, Ho!

Settling into a meal at Cafe Iberico, with a bunch of friends. I met up with Kent and Christine, Justin, Emma and Dave. Unfortunately, Stu was planning to join us but had to cancel last minute.

This whole meal, by the way, was made possible by an incredibly generous gift.

Two suits of armor nearby. I immediately thought of Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

Tableview, with Emma peeking. Justin and Kent are discussing what to order, and what to add to "the list." The waitress took our order after we had passed around the napkin once, so we kept on ordering.

Our old rule of thumb was: two dishes per person. This typically is more than enough food, with some left over. After tonight… we’ve revised that to more of a sliding scale. If it’s just two people: three dishes per person. But it goes down incrementally, the more people you have. Kent, Christine and Dave were arguing ratios on the car ride home, and something around 1.5 dishes per person was considered optimal.

Christine and Dave (whose shirt I tried to take a picture of, but it came out all fuzzy).

Dave, digging into some chorizo.

Me, passing along a plate of artichoke hearts. Mmmmm…..

Kent, unabashedly indulging in the goat cheese.

This here is the shit. Queso de cabra: baked goat cheese with fresh tomato basil sauce. I learned tonight that this is probably Christine’s favorite dish here. While I’m a fan of the goat cheese, I throw my hands in the air and thank the powers that be for Patatas Ali-Oli: red potatoes with garlic mayonnaise sauce.

This, if you can believe it, this is all leftovers. At this point, there was an attempt to get people to finish this off. All entreaties, however, were met with a lot of head shaking and a lot of groaning.

From Dave: Why did we eat the bread at the beginning? What were we thinking

Left to right: Christine, Dave, Emma, Justin, Kent, Me.

The lights are low in this place, and the idea of using a Flash through all of dinner was a little intrusive to me. So – a lot of tonight’s pics are a little fuzzy around the edges. THIS one, however, was a fun shot to end on: taken by our waitress.

And with a Flash. :)

a3dmofo, sherie, jverbal, Mr. Grumpy, Smartiehouse, templeton, TS7 – you’ve made six Chicagoans very lucky, very full, and very happy. From all of us: thank you so much.
