Potluck For Alex
Alex and Linda came into town, spending a brief night before jaunting off to Florida. Unfortunately, Linda was sick and ended up just sleeping at Justin’s apartment (where the two of them were staying).
Tonight’s potluck (I went for the cheapie out, and bought a cake from a nearby bakery) was great. Lots of wine and beer, and lots of good food. The dinner was hosted by Dave, and it’s to my shame that this is the first time I’ve been to his apartment since he moved.
However, in my defense… this is the first official event that Dave‘s hosted, since the move.
Sidenote: at the Divorce Party, I think this was the first picture I’ve ever taken of Ben. I can’t remember if we met before this, but I got fired a few days later, and ended up working with Justin and Ben a few weeks later. I really dig Dave‘s place. It’s a basement apartment, and very compact. Dave‘s setup is very utilitarian, and when I think about how much space I currently have (versus how much of that space I really use, day to day)… a small part of me covets his apartment. I’m not sure how to explain this, but when you walk in… the place feels like it’s a productive space. When I walked into Dave‘s apartment, I got the distinct sensation that shit got done here.
For the most part this evening, I didn’t take any pictures of people. Perhaps it was the space, and the fact that everyone was so close to one another all night. Perhaps it’s me out of practice documenting everything (and everyone), but most of the pics I took were of the apartment. These pictures are all early on in the evening, before most people arrived.

This was a gift from Kent and Christine. It’s a fancy nutcracker, and has been given the name “Davey Crackit. ![]()

Dave‘s impressive CD collection. What else would you expect from a musician?

No idea what this is. Just found it sitting on a counter, and decided it needed to be photographed.

Dave set up a dinner mix, which was just pretty damn cool.
A bit later, Justin and Ben showed up, as did Gretchen and Rob. Jason stopped by briefly, as he had a ton of work to finish for Found. I hung out with everyone until about 11:30 or so, and had a blast. I got to talk with Gretchen and Rob a bit more, which was fantastic. Everytime I see them, I kick myself for not trying to see them more.
