After my first official day of working at home, I gotta say – it’s delightful. I had a blast bopping around my apartment, and there’s a tremendous sense of freedom as I go about all my tasks.
For the record, seeing as how I’ve had like 4 people ask me… yes, I was wearing pants. Thanks, guys.
So far, I’ve spent a good amount of time today sitting in front of this computer. It doesn’t feel terribly overwhelming, although I wonder what my breaking point will be when I finally throw my arms up and walk outside just to get away from my apartment.
I took a bit of a longer lunch than expected, but I also ended up working a bit later than usual. I guess since I’m not keeping strict hours, the lines have blurred a bit. I expected as much, but maybe not so much that it would happen on the first day.
Post-work, I continued trying to clean up the apartment a bit. I ended up throwing away my old computer earlier (formatted the drives, and and copied out any archived files I wanted to keep). As a fitting twist of fate, while I’ve been trying to throw out excess stuff in my apartment… I’m starting to run out of storage space on my portable drive and my desktop computer.
I also ended up connecting my super old, old Zip drive to this computer, and started going through old backup disks. Found a ton of stuff, and I only got about halfway through tonight. And here’s a moment where being a packrat pays off! I stumbled across some backups of my emails, going back as far as my undergraduate days. We’re talking VAX and Pine days here, emails that are at least 10 to 12 years old!
Felt like including this image, which I found on an old Zip disk. This was a photograph that belonged to my friend Ann, of a dance piece that I think she choreographed. I was taken by this image, and had scanned it for use in some web project, way back when. It’s more than five years old, and I felt like sharing something that took me back to my grad school days at OSU.
