My Eyeballs are, apparently, quite fantastic

Went in to get an eye exam for the first time in like 3-4 years. My prescription didn’t change all that much (surprisingly), and though I’m extremely nearsighted… the doc told me that he was pretty taken at how healthy my eyes were. The top one percentile of health was where he put it, saying that he was “surprised” to see my eyes so healthy given my particular prescription.

“You should be really happy,” is what he said to me. “I’m really surprised, and really happy for you.”

Go figure!

I went to this place called “D/Vision” (on Division – heh), on the recommendation of Liz and Steph. The folks manning the floor were really nice and helpful, and the doctor (though he was super young… and about my age), was incredibly patient and informative.

And for the record? My company’s insurance rocks. While I paid a LOT for my glasses (it figures, seeing as how my prescription is so crazy strong), it paled in comparison to how much it would have been, sans insurance.

I get my new glasses in a week or two. Possibly longer, given that it’s a holiday weekend coming up here. I’m fairly excited – new glasses! It’s been years.

To top it off, the eye doctor recommended a newer type of material for the lens. I guess this was a fairly recent thing, and one of his assistants ended up calling my insurance company to find out whether or not they covered it. When I found out they did, I decided to pay the slight difference, seeing as how these would now be the thinnest possible lenses I could get.

And for those of you who saw the pair of glasses I had back in college? Yeah. You’re damn right I ponied up the extra cash for the thinner lenses. Sweet JEBUS but those were some Coke Bottles.

Apologies if the pics on this post are a bit blurry I got my pupils dilated, and they’re still not quite back to normal. There’s a dull hazed around everything, and I’m still squinting as I look into the monitor.
