More about aerogel
After my post about the Stardust@Home project, I’ve found myself in awe of aerogel.
It’s the lightest solid, a great insulator (as evidenced above) and just looks crazy neat. I can’t believe this shit has been around since the 1930’s – that part alone blows my mind.
I did some digging around, and found this neat site about creating aerogel in zero gravity. There are some really cool movies on this page, including footage on board NASA’s KC-135A Reduced Gravity Airplane (also known as “The Vomit Comet”).
If the science alone doesn’t compel you, then at least go to watch the reporter get queasy.
