Buca Di Beppo

Something funny that Liz mentioned the other day was that the two of us haven’t had a meal together yet. We’ve hung out plenty, but mostly at Marshall’s or over at Rodan.

Well, tonight we headed out to go see a movie, and stopped off to eat at Buca di Beppo. I had never been before, and I have to say – I really enjoyed it. In particular, I dig the walkthrough you get, as they go about seating you.

For everyone, as they lead you to your table, they first take you through the kitchen. Almost everyone I made eye contact with smiled back at me, and one or two of the line cooks even waved. Oh – and there was a small table nestled into a nook in the kitchen area as well, which looked like a cool spot to eat.

Wish I would have had my camera out to record that. Oh well – reason to come back I guess. :)

Between the two of us, we had some wine, split an order of garlic bread (they’re serious about their garlic here – yum!), and the Penne Cardinale (chicken, artichokes, green onions in a cream sauce). Totally more than we could put down, despite the fact that I hadn’t really had anything to eat all day.

The one thing that sucked – one of the chefs ended up adding pepper flakes to the dish. Neither one of us, we found out, do all that well with spicy foods, but we’re also similar in that we rarely (if ever) send something back. So we made our way through the meal, laughing and sweating a bit more than we planned.

By the time we got done with the meal it was pretty late (we didn’t sit down until maybe 9PM or so). We hung out a while, trying to see if we could make an 11:15 showing of V for Vendetta, but then ended up getting too tired and gave up.

We jumped on the Red Line, headed back to Liz’s place, and settled onto the couch for some pumpkin pie and an old episode of Sherlock Holmes instead. Man, I love the weekends. :)
