Half-Day

One of the cool things about my company is that, when big holiday weekends come up… we invariably get a half-day on the Friday preceeding. This works out well for those who do a lot of travelling, and gives people a chance to get a head-start hitting the road.

It’s also pretty great for those of us who don’t travel, and just stay in the city. This afternoon, Chris and I decided to take advantage of the half-day, and went out to grab a late lunch at Piece.

We chatted at length about our company (Emmis), and also about where we imagined our division would be in the next year or so. We’re both convinced that some big changes are coming, and we’ll soon be outgrowing our (new) office.

The conversation also drifted to personal projects, and how both of us seem to be itching to create stuff for ourselves. Chris does more freelance than me, but we both seem to be missing the satisfaction of working on something… just for ourselves.

One thing I’d like to do this summer: collaborate with Chris on some sort of short film idea. Could be serious, could be silly. Chris has a background with film, and I just think it’d be fun do something like that.

After lunch, we wandered over to the nearby Cingular store on Milwaukee. Sadly, I ended up spending close to an hour in here, getting a new cellphone + service, and Chris just wandered around outside for a while. More on this in a bit.

Met up with Liz and Steph and Liz, for drinks at the Pontiac. Chris and I swung by here earlier, having plans to grab a table early and camp out. But by the time we showed, the place was packed. He ended up heading back home, and I did the same, dropping off a ton of stuff I was carrying.

At home, I got two messages: Liz told me she was nearby, killing time between jobs and Steph called to say they had gotten some seating at Pontiac. A few minutes later, I was back at Pontiac with Liz, and all four of us managed to take over a nearby table… watching the world walk by and soaking in the afternoon sun.

Liz ended up leaving for her work around 6, and I stayed on to chat with Liz and Steph. Sadly, that splotchy thing that happens to me every once in a while… happened. Basically, I got really red and the headache kicked in. It also got me sleepy to the point where I was nodding off, while talking with Liz and Steph. Ugh. :|

So, despite how nice it was there at the Pontiac, I ended up going home to rest for a bit – hoping the alcohol reaction would pass, and allow me to continue on with the remainder of the evening.
