Shedd Aquarium
Since we both had a half-day today, Liz and I decided to meet up at her workplace and take advantage of the “Discount Days” (June 4 – 9) at the Shedd Aquarium. On these days, general admission is free – so we planned a little outing. It’s been a long while since I’ve been to the aquarium (I remember going as a kid), and Liz’s last visit there *was* when she was a kid. So this was a perfect outing plan.

I stopped by her officeplace, and got the nickel tour. And, of course, I took a photo of her desk. Just because that’s the sort of thing I do around here.

A short walk and bus ride later… we arrive, to find a line. After a bit, a staff member informs us that it’ll be about an hour and a half until we reach the door, given where we are. And, after that, he points out to us that we’re in the stroller/wheelchair line. The regular line is some distance away, and right now it’s at about a two hour wait.
Doh.
And so – Liz and I decide to skip the aquarium altogether. My stomach’s rumbling at bit by now, as I haven’t eaten anything. On our walk away from the lines, we spy a little snack shack – and I can smell the junk food inside. We round the corner…

… only to see another line. And so – we keep on going.
Just a general question here, after the fact. Why, on one of the busiest days, when there are lines with a two-hour wait on them… why, oh why, is there only one service window open at the snack shack? The other four windows are there just for show? Just to keep the cold air inside? Maybe they crack those windows open when the lines hit four hours.
