FFFF: Fast Forward Film Festival
A few days ago, I had heard about the Fast Forward Film Festival – a fun project where a group of people create a film within twenty-four hours.
The idea of participating in something like this seemed kind of interesting (although, not having done much camera work… I’d likely be serving as a writer). But today, I got call from Chris and we decided to check out the screening.
The event kicked off last night and tonight, some 24 hours later, everyone was showing off the goods.

Liz stopped by after work, and the two of us got a ride from Chris. The event was pretty far out on the west side, and on a rather desolate strip on Lake.

This must be the place.

On walking on, there was a small corridor (filled with doors) that led into the warehouse/workspace. All in all a really large area (think airplane hangar tall), and a perfect place for something like this.

See what I mean? This is the view of the room, shortly after paying for our tickets.

I walked around a bit, beforehand, snapping a few pics. Didn’t have the right settings and didn’t want to use a flash and get in everyone’s face – so the next few are a bit blurry. But hopefully you’ll get a feel for the place.

Near the back. What was particularly interesting about the space was that there was all this machinery/metal, lining the walls, surrounding the seating area.

View from the back of the room. They opened up one of the large garage doors, but the heat inside was pretty rough. As the night progressed, it just got hotter and hotter.

Anyone recognize that image?
The premise for this festival was that the film needed to be science fiction; and, additionally, each film needed to pick items/subjects from a predetermined list for inclusion in the film. Some of these references were: zombies, cheap beer, and a “mass amnesia bomb.” The films didn’t have to have all of the items… but one item from each set.
I don’t have the official list, but maybe it’ll get posted on the site.
The films were, on the whole… good. There were a few stinkers, and a few that really got me laughing. I wasn’t particularly blown away by anything, but my standards are probably all out of whack here. Really, I don’t know all the things that go in to making a film – and though it sounds like a lot of time, 24 hours is really just 24 hours.
Chris and I were talking a bit, afterwards. We were kicking around the idea some, and I kept thinking about various people to ask. Who knows – maybe when the next festival comes around…
I’ve pulled my fair share of all-nighters for work. Might be nice to do it for something fun, for a change.
