I… am a genius

While in the front yard today, talking with my landlord Ted, he asked me how my electric bill was looking. “Fine,” I said, unsure of what he was talking about. At first, I thought he meant to ask whether my electric bill was high due to all the power tools being used around the yard and such. But as we talked more, he kept saying things like how he figured my bill would be lower, compared to last summer (when I was using a window unit).

After a long minute or two, my brain finally put the pieces together… and I realized he was asking about how my electric bill was, now that I had central air conditioning.

I didn’t realize I had central AC.

Wow. It’s been how many months into the summer now, and I had no idea I had AC at my place. In the past, I never had it. So that’s why I never assumed. However, with the new heating unit Ted put in last winter – I figured that I got a fancy new heater. I didn’t understand that I also got central air as well!

I’ve been laughing at myself for some time now. I can’t believe I just never tried to flip the switch over to “Cool,” to test out the AC. This particular episode might propel me past Justin for the all-time “Absent-Minded Professor” award.

I’m happy I ran into Ted this afternoon, because otherwise – I might still be just sitting in the apartment, with the windows open. Truth be told, it’s been fairly cool in here (basement apartment, shaded by a pretty huge tree). But with the AC going full-blast right now, let me tell ya – it’s a little slice of heaven.
