South Beach: A Nice Place to Diet

Started the South Beach Diet today, with Liz. She’s decided to go on it, and seeing as how I’ve mostly been sitting in front of a computer screen these last four years… I thought it would be smart for me to do the same. While I think weight loss is going to be a nice plus to going on this thing, I think the major draw for me is an improved diet. That, more than anything else, is what I need to introduce into my life at this time.

Liz is doing the lion’s share of the work: grocery shopping, preparing meals. Hell, she even made my lunch for me today! Since she’s already in the process of making her own food, she’s doubled up the recipes and is covering me as well. How lucky am I?

I’m a bit behind on how the whole diet thing works (honestly, this is the first actual diet I’ve tried to go on that wasn’t simply me not eating food). Liz’s done it before, but I need to figure out what the process is like. So far, I’m in the first phase of things, which lasts for two weeks. I have to avoid sugar of all kind, including things like all fruit, breads, pastas, rice, etc. No soda or booze either.

But honestly, at the end of the day, I don’t think that this two week period will be all that much of a departure for me. Well, maybe the starch thing, but I can deal with it.

We’ll see how this goes. Last night Liz made a pretty fantastic meal of salmon and artichoke hearts. If that dinner is any indication of what this diet is going to be like, I say… bring it on.
