Note to Self: Go Check Out the Norge Ski Club

Today, I learned about the Norge Ski Club in Fox River Grove (the oldest, continuously open ski club in the United Sates). How is it that I’ve lived in Chicago all these many years, and this is the first time I’ve learned of this magnificent place?
This past weekend was the Norge International Ski Jumping Tournament, and it sounded like quite the amazing time. I would have loved to have attended. Even though I know very little about skiing (and even less about jumping), the whole thing just seems like a spectacle worth witnessing.
With the good fortune I’ve had calling/emailing places and getting permission to document events, I really need to contact this place and find out about future events. I bet the jumps in the summertime are just as interesting.
Here’s a brief video I found, showing the various grades and jumps available (the first few minutes are of kids, on the smaller jumps):
Still can’t believe I’ve not heard of this amazing place until just now. I totally need to go.

This place is less than 5 mins from my house! They are always advertising for the jumps and I’ve never been as well. But the locals tell me it’s really awesome. If you go, let me know so I can show up too! :)
Justin W. Siddons (January 29, 2013 at 12:38 pm)Just shot them an email, asking about future events. It would be a ton of fun to go out there and document the grounds – it looks like they have multiple jumps for various skill levels, and some interesting indoor “training” areas.
I also found out that the location is also affiliated somehow with the Windy City Balloon Port. Not sure what that’s about, but checking into that as well. I’m terrified of heights, but the idea of seeing a field full of hot air balloons preparing to launch sounds awesome.
I’ll definitely let you know what I find out!
