Industriousness, Ambition, and a Huge Spider Web

Walking home, I was stopped in my tracks by a spider web that turned out to be bigger than I first imagined. It’s tough to see in this photo, but if you look above the diamond pattern above the doorway, you can make out a thin strand of web. Not only did the spiderweb cover almost all fo the window on the ground floor, it extended a significant length to the balcony ledge nearby.

On seeing this guy, I was reminded of one of my favorite lines by Robert Browning:

Ah, but a man’s reach should exceed his grasp,
Or what’s a heaven for?

The web (as well as the spider seated right in the middle of it) was just massive. Given how wide an area it spanned, I half-expected to see a small bird or toddler, trapped on the thing.
