Resuming Running

I’ve taken a bit of a hiatus from running. Call it maybe 3-4 weeks or so. But over the weekend and today, I suited up and got out again. And it actually felt pretty good.

I was worried about how things might go, after so much time away. I’ve made pretty good time on my last two runs, despite the sabbatical.

For these two recent runs, I aimed for around half an hour. My first run I set for 30 minutes, but ended up running closer to 40 (and wasn’t overly tired by the time I finished).

The more recent run was just 25 minutes. While this was shorter in terms of duration, I found myself actually running a lot faster than normal. And ended up pacing around 13:14 per mile (which for me is really, really fast).

I feel quite relived in many ways, that my weeks away didn’t set me back down to zero. I think that despite the time away, I’ll be able to build back up to long runs in a short while. It’s actually quite exciting.

I have a secret goal of running a 5K. And maybe a stretch goal of trying a 10K at some point. But 5K first. Going to take a little more training and a lot more days out before I feel back to where I was, when I stopped.

But it feels good to start again.
