Juliet Focuses in on a Career

juliet: But deep down, I know I’m going to win. It’s all a matter of time before she cracks, and she moves back to the windy city.

Dream on, Ohio Boy! It’s only a matter of time before you figure out that those chains you despise BUILT those huge buildings like the one you’re working in! They block out the sun you love to see so much! You hate the potholes! You miss the grass! You miss the cows! You’re packing your bags! You’re moving to Columbus! And aaahh, you can breathe. Stop by when you get here….

Juliet: Who wants to listen to some guy complain about things all the time? Well… I mean, you do, apparently, since you’re reading this. But I mean other people. You know. The normal ones. :)

That’s me! I’m one of the not normal ones!

Juliet: So I just took this personality / career test to help me figure out what I should do with my life, since it seems desperately apparent that my choices up to now have been the wrong ones. I filled out a 70-question survey and got the results that first described my temperament. Holy cats, I said, this is so accurate, it’s scary. In fact, I got a little teary at the relief of being recognized.
Portnoy: hahahahahahaha
Portnoy: sorry – just read your first post.
Portnoy: What are you supposed to do for a career?
Juliet: The problem was, it said that people of my type are rare, that they prefer close relationships, trust intuition, all this stuff that sounds so NOT like any kind of job.
Juliet: So I got the career description thing, and here is the list of careers it says I should pursue, in this order:
Juliet: occupational therapist
Juliet: creative writer
Juliet: filmmaker
Juliet: art director
Juliet: librarian
Juliet: architect
Juliet: educational consultan
Juliet: counselor
Juliet: (Counselor is the general category title for people of my temperament)
Juliet: registered nurse
Portnoy: :)
Juliet: counseling psychologist
Juliet: religious educator
Juliet: grant writer
Juliet: critic: literary/film
Juliet: professor: sociology
Juliet: I don’t know whether I think this is good news or bad news
Juliet: Ah! vindication: Trying to force yourself to become what you’re not is likely to lead to dissatisfaction in your career, and possibly to poor performance as well.
Portnoy: What does an occupational therapist do?
Juliet: helps people figure out what jobs they should seek
Juliet: if that’s not meta, i don’t know what is
