Grumpy and I Discsuss Multimedia

Grumpy shares a few links with me, and we fall into talking about what we like and disklike. He first shows me this link from harderconcepts.com. I found the animation to be visually cool, and liked it a great deal. But Grumpy made an excellent point about the animation not really "doing" anything. For what it’s worth, it’s a promo piece, showing off a company’s range and their ability to "do all sorts of cool shit." But in terms of marketing, in terms of addressing a particular audience, selling a product, focusing on any kind of messaging… it fails miserably. Technically – it’s a solid piece of work, and is dazzling. But as nice as it looks, it says little. It says "We’re a technology-driven company." But what it doesn’t say is that "We’re a technology-driven company that can assist your business/marketing endeavors."

He showed me another site (by romiglia), and it seemed much more effective. A similar approach in terms of "ability," but this company seemed to pull it off better. I guess I’m biased, as the romiglia site pushes more of the technical process in getting something to look the way it does. But the format suggests proficiency and experience, in a bare-bones display. I guess I’m more drawn to it as a designer/Flash person.
