Jesus’ Son
I’ve been meaning to put a few quotations from Jesus’ Son, a collection of short stories by Denis Johnson. There was a movie made a few years back – I saw it maybe a year or two ago, but fell asleep after about 30 minutes. I’m always wary of movie adaptations, especially when one movie is trying to pull in several short stories… but hey, I’m not writing this to tout the film. After all, I fell asleep watching it – I have no idea if it’s a good or bad movie.
But I love, I love the book. I lent it to Ben a few weeks back, and after he returned it… I started rereading it again. So I thought I’d share a passage, because this is one of those books that you wind up reading out loud to friends just because it’s so damn good. The kind where you’re flagging down the people you trust and admire, and tell them "Alright, just wait. Listen to this."
It’s a fast read, a relatively short/quick book, and something you could probably plow through in a night or sitting. I guess I’m trying to recommend the book to you. Alright?
Just wait.
