Half Full or Half Empty?

I grabbed this on my way up the stairs to the train. It looked to me like the mama bird got her eggs eaten, there being only an empty shell nearby. But when I got home and looked a bit closer, I’m not sure if the eggs hatched, instead. I’ll have to take a peek tomorrow and see.
