Punch me, and I bleed?

Somehow, Justin got ahold of a pirated DVD of Spiderman 2. He and Dave were making enchiladas, and I stopped over to join them for the movie.

I’ve always been a big fan of Spider-man, and read a lot of the comics as a kid. But the first movie I wasn’t all that taken with, and I felt less impressed by this second one. There were a few moments where it was strong (I’m thinking of the Bacharach segue in particular), and the effects rocked.

But the whole “Punch me, and I bleed” line? Is that a reference to something? And why, after going to a medical doctor, does Peter start asking the doc to analyze his dream for him? And while I can see how a mental issue like doubt/fear can contribute to a temporary loss of his powers… how can that possibly mess with the mechanics of how he shoots web?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I hear you. If I can believe someone was bitten by a radioactive spider, how can I nitpick these details?

Suspension of disbelief and all that. But the sequel took several liberties, and I just didn’t end up going along for the ride. I had a blast though, pulling my own version of MST3K with Justin and Dave.
