Wendy and Celia
A friend of mine from way, WAY back contacted me through MySpace last week. Wendy and I went to high school together, and spent a year singing in the school’s show choir (aka “Counterpoints”). That’s right. Insert jazz hands here.
We exchanged a few emails and set up a lunch for today. All told, when we did the math, I think it’s been something like fourteen years since we’ve seen one another! Amazing how quickly the years pass by.
Around 2:30, we met up and I was introduced to her daughter, Celia – who had me smiling the rest of the afternoon. The three of us went to Zen Noodles for some Thai, and Wendy and I got caught up.

Here’s a pic of the lovely ladies. Celia had a great plastic fireman’s helmet, which I didn’t get a photo of. However, I was able to try it on a bit later on in the afternoon. After lunch, we stopped off for a bit of ice cream. I learned that Celia, when she gets tired, actually gets more energetic. Lots of shenanigans ensued when Wendy hinted that the waffle cone was big enough for Celia to “put her face in it.” ![]()
From there, we went across the street to Piece, where Wendy and I grabbed a quick beer. The place was filling up with the pre-Super Bowl crowd, but I think we got there just in time.
It was great seeing Wendy again – she’s about an hour outside of Chicago, and all this time I had no idea. Chalk one up for MySpace, apparently. The two of us made tentative plans to hang out again, the next time she’s in the city. Ah… meeting old friends again for the first time. Awesome.
