Texas Holdem: Wherein I Demonstrate that I don’t know when to fold ’em

As part of an ongoing birthday gift to Ben, his wife Laurage arranged a poker game for him on the downlow. The cat was let out of the bag a day early, but we all still got to get together after work and play a pretty big game.

In attendence: Allison, Mike, Ben, Justin, Chris and Brandon (who, I’m now realizing… I don’t have a picture of).

Lots of folks, and we all started out with 1500 in chips.

Sadly, I was the first one out. And when I say out, I was out FAST. I went all-in early on with nothing but an ace. I want to say that it’s been a long while since I’ve played and I got overly excited… but ultimately, I just made a ton of bad decisions. I got my head invested in a hand, and couldn’t back off and let it go.

So, after something like 3 or 4 hands, I found myself with no chips and a whole lotta free time on my hands. I spent the next hour and a half watching everyone else play.

As part of the festivities, Justin whipped up a unique drink concoction. I’m not sure what it’s called, but it’s a mix of rum, grape soda – and lemon wedges. I should have had a few more of these at the start of the game – at least that way, I could blame my loss on the booze instead of my poor judgement. :)

The dull cloud that mentioned a few days ago was still around, and came back after I left the game. I don’t know that I was all that upset with leaving the game early – it was more like, I no longer had the game to distract me from being in a junky mood.

I hung around until 9 PM or so, and the game was still going on. I think the final breakdown ended up having Allison as the big winner, Brandon coming in second and Chris placing third. Allison, who had been hanging back the entire time, came back with a series of all-in’s, and just kept on doubling up.
