Yard Makeover

Came home today to find a ton of folks working in my yard. Turns out, Ted is totally and dramatically re-doing the front lawn, and hiring on a ton of folks to give it a total makeover.

I’m not talking just cleaning the place up – I’m talking an improved brick walkway. Tiled patio area. Trellises with roses! And possibly a fountain!

I talked for a bit with Noreen, who was overseeing a lot of the plants and organization. She’s the one who filled me in on the changes, and expects things will be done in a few weeks.

Looking at the main steps, towards the street. Note the ton of gravel on the left there.

Bits and pieces of what used to be in the yard. The small and unused garden boxes were ripped up, and… to be honest, I’m not sure where all those concrete chunks came from.

THIS was exciting to see. I’m not sure exactly how the “patio” area is going to be laid out, but wow – I can’t wait to see how these tiles get used.

The original bricks from the existing walkway. Nothing’s wrong with the bricks themselves, and Noreen felt it would be good to re-use them for the main walkway.

The current (wooden) walkway, leading to my front steps.

Here’s a view of the yard, from the top of the stairs near the sidewalk. I’m planning on taking a shot from this exact spot every day, until all the yardwork is done. Think of it as sort of a fake-ish timelapse. Not sure if it’ll turn out how I imagine, but it should provide for an interesting series.

  1. Hi Felix, I just looked at the garden photos for the first time. The every day plan was a great idea; gardens move slowly though… I heard you were moving. Was wondering if you were going to take any more photos this spring when all the daffodils and other plants bloom?(Also, I don’t know that I will, but wanted permission to use your photos…) Thanks.
