Comics++

I just got Jim and Sally’s birthday gift a day or so ago in the mail. Not one, but two great books about comics.

I’ve heard a great deal about Scott McCloud’s “Understanding Comics,” and even recall seeing it listed on a few college courses. I’m just a little bit into it at the moment, but it’s done a great job of explicitly describing what comics are… and what makes them different.

Ever since coming across a copy of Maus in college, I’ve never really looked at comics in the same way. I haven’t looked at the medium in the same light. Until Maus came along, I had no idea what comics were capable of.

From there, I got hooked on Sandman a great deal. Most recently, I’ve been working through Fables, which I’ve been enjoying a great deal.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about McCloud’s book, and I can’t wait to delve deeper. Thanks Jim! Thanks Sally!
