More Cowbell: Add Christopher Walken + Cowbell to Any MP3
This entry is a little silly, and a little serious.
Starting off with the silly: the folks that brought you The Jingler (a fantastic project that came out late last year) have recently unveiled MoreCowbell.dj.
The site’s premise is short and sweet: Upload a song, set the level of cowbell and Walken you want, and upload!
There’s been a ton of traffic it it lately, as it recently got linked up by BoingBoing. And truth be told, the upload process does take a bit of time. But if you’re not patient enough to wait around and need your cowbell fix like NOW, you can check out some of the recent cowbell tracks.
For kicks, here’s what I made (27% cowbell, 61% Walken):
And now the serious part. Both MoreCowbell.dj and The Jingler are powered by The Echo Nest, which offers up a ton of sweet Developer API methods.
I half-started a project a while back, after discovering these methods… and honestly, there’s a lot here that seems a bit beyond me. I think it’s awesome that they can discern things like bars and beats and even key, based on an .mp3 upload. But tatums? What the hell are those?
Lots to explore, and a lot of possibilities. Seeing this again makes me want to take a week off of work and set up the coffee machine next to computer. I’m only half-joking about this.
So much time, so little to do.
Wait. Strike that. Reverse it.
