Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog
A few days ago, Liz and I got around to watching Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog via Netflix streaming. Joss Whedon (Buffy, Angel, Firefly) is the writer/director, and describes it as the story of a “low-rent super-villain, the hero who keeps beating him up, and the cute girl from the laundromat he’s too shy to talk to.”
It stars Neil Patrick Harris as Dr. Horrible, who is trying to join the Evil League of Evil. But before he can be accepted, he needs to prove to the league that he’s able to pull off a heinous crime. The film also features Nathan Fillion as Captain Hammer and Felicia Day as Penny.
I’m a big fan of Whedon’s Firefly, a one season TV series that inspired such a cult following that it culminated in a feature-length movie being made – Serenity. My friends Liz and Steph told me about Firefly ages ago, and it wasn’t until a few years ago that I actually got around to watching it. I was blown away, and have been a Joss Whedon fan ever since.
I never got into Buffy the Vampire Slayer when it was on, but I now understand the draw. Whedon’s got a knack for coming up with great characters, and for giving those characters really great things to say. Like Aaron Sorkin, he comes up with some pretty killer dialogue.
Dr. Horrible is about 40 minutes in length, broken up into three acts. I’ve gathered all the segments from YouTube, and have included them below.
Oh my gosh! Did you love it? I love NPH, and so I pretty much think anything he does is awesome, but I was surprised by how good Nathan Fillion was. Anyway, I liked it a lot, and for 40 minutes, it was pretty entertaining. Nice way to combat that writer’s strike, too.
