Now in Hyde Park, Chicago: Drizly Alcohol Delivery and Promo Code: BEERS

Sorry for the rather obnoxious title (and url). I have a small interest in getting this promo code spread around, so I decided to make it a little more… blunt than normal.
On arriving home today, I saw that there was an ad hanging off my doorknob. Usually, I hate this stuff. We get newspapers and coupon things thrown on the porch all the time and they never make it into the house: they go straight to the recycling bin.
But this ad caught my eye. I realized it was from Drizly – a service that offers alcohol delivery within one hour. I had heard about the service some time ago, back when they became available in Chicago. And now, it appears that the service stretches into Hyde Park.

I have to say: the ad itself was impressive to me. It was clean and crisp, tons of red, with white text and fairly minimal/stark. On closer inspection, I was surprised to see an absence of website, URL, or hashtag. In fact, the only three images were actually logos: the Drizly bear, the Apple logo, and the Google Play logo.
In fact, the only mention of the company is on the front: once in the logo, and once in a “brought to you by” message.
As you might expect, there’s a promo code on the ad. But even more interesting is the fact that I can share a promo code of my own, for others to use. Now this is not necessarily a novel thing, but on logging in… I realized I could actually edit my promo code.
I tried a few variations (bottomsup, drinkup) but they were all taken. I then tried “beer” and got a message saying that promo codes needed to be a minimum of five characters. I tried BEERS and amazingly… it worked!
PROMO CODE: BEERS
So: if you’re in one of these cities, you can usethe Drizly service and also use my promo code. My code (BEERS) will give you $5 off your first purchase (and also give me a $5 credit as well).
I really like that I was able to customize my promo code, and am vaguely wondering if BEERS will be common enough that I might end up getting a decent amount of credits. I’ll be sharing this around on Twitter and Facebook, and will be curious what happens.
Can you imagine? Getting a lot of free credit with an alcohol delivery service? I’d drink to that.

Oh cool! You always seem to use the same type of service I’m using, but a different brand. I’ve tried Minibar, which has been pretty awesome, but not this one. They had free delivery all of last month and like… $10 or $15 off my first order I think? I’ll see if they have a referral code…
Pretty neat. Has been great for ordering random cocktail ingredients for last-minute experimenting.

On-demand delivery has been around for a while now, I realize. But it’s starting to get specific, and the time seems to get shorter and shorter. An hour seems kind of amazing, when need to cover an entire city (and factor in travel/traffic to boot).

P.S. I’m thirsty…
