After the Storm

Prior to our trip to the lakehouse, Liz and I stopped at Mariano’s to load up on supplies. One thing that struck us on walking in: this makeshift rain catcher.

The more I looked, the more I realized how much of a custom contraption it seemed to be. A bunch of tubes, duct-taped together, leading into a barrel.

I was awed at the ingenuinty here. And was amazed that someone jerry-rigged this whole thing up.

As we walked through the store though, I realized this was a more official thing. As I saw several (maybe 6 or 7 total) other areas, where there were similar bits of plastic, tubes, and barrels.

We’ve had a tremendous amount of rain in Chicago, this past week. So my best guess is that Mariano’s roof had some pretty serious problems, and a lot of rain came down/through.
