Gotye: Somebody That I Used to Know

Hard to believe that the hit song “Somebody That I Used to Know,” by Gotye, is now a decade old.
And because we appear to be living in the golden age of Oral Histories, someone wrote up how the song came to be.
There was a feeling that it wasn’t me who was shoving the song in everyone’s face, it was the rest of the world, and I was kind of like, “It’s okay! You don’t have to play my song so much! Play some other songs! We can listen to different music!” I’d show up at commercial music stations and they’d be like, “The star has arrived!” And I’d be like, “I’d like to hear some other music, please.”
I haven’t listened to Gotye’s album in a long while, and even longer since I’ve listened to this song. But hearing it again reminded me of how ubiquitous it was, how ever-present it was at the height of its popularity.
