Indigo Girls: Galileo
I was digging through my old album archives, and came across several Indigo Girls songs. And started re-listening to a ton of them.
I’m a fan of their early work (though I have to confess I dropped off after Swamp Ophelia). But those early albums really have an ability to evoke a specific time in my life, and there are a great number of songs I’m still incredibly fond of.
In addition to their harmonies, the lyrics are just tops. There are a lot of lines that just stand out, and their writing is one of the big draws for me.
Did a little searching, and found this live performance of the song Galileo, back in 1992 on the Tonight Show. And it’s quite incredibly how good they sound live, as it matches a lot of what I remember from the album. Bonus: Jackson Browne apparently joined them on stage.
I love the explorations of reincarnation through this song. So many incredibly good lines, like:
Over a couple of beers the other night
And now I’m serving time for mistakes
Made by another in another life time
Hard to believe I’ve not shared a song on here from them, ever. I have strong memories of several albums of theirs (on cassette no less), playing them in the dark as I fell asleep. Time to revisit a lot of these older albums.
