Chess With Jamie
I stopped by the Artful Dodger after work, to see if Jamie was up for some chess. We had talked about playing a few games last week, but my recollection was a bit fuzzy. By the end of that night, I was pretty sauced, and only had some vague memory involving the words “chess,” 5:00 PM” and “slow.”
To my delight, it turns out she was expecting me today, and I settled in at the bar.

I gotta say – I really liked this chess set. For Jamie, it was a bit too high up (she apparently likes looking down at the pieces). But for me, it was one of the most fanciest chess boards I’ve played on… at least, while at a bar.

There’s something reassuring about a bar that has reference materials on hand, just in case anyone needs to settle a bet.

All in all, I was at Artful Dodger for about three hours. We played a total of three games (I won the first two, but she warmed up and beat me on the third). It’s been a long while since I’ve played chess, and quite honestly… I had a blast. I got to hear grandaddy’s latest album, and Jamie made special mention of a band called The Unicorns. I’ll have to check that out (hope I got the URLs right).
