Morning News
So check this out.
Last night on the news, I happened to see a reporter talking “live at the Merchandise Mart,” the building where I work. Apparently, there’s a fundamental disagreement between the higher ups at the Chicago Teacher’s Union.
There was an election for the presidency a while back. Deborah Lynch is currently in office, but Marilyn Stewart won the election, and is slated to take over.
But.
Recently, there are allegations of election fraud by some sort of internal committee. I’m not clear on the specifics, but from what I’ve gathered, there is the suggestion that many members of this committee were appointed by Lynch.
To make things even more interesting, yesterday Lynch had the locks changed on the doors, in an attempt to prevent Stewart from assuming office.
I got to work a bit early today, and noticed all the news vans. I work on the second floor of the Mart. The office for the Chicago Teacher’s Union is on the fourth floor.
I get in, drop off my stuff, and mention all this to Mike. The two of us decide, “what the hell,” and head on up.
We run into a few security guards, but after mentioning we were with Q101 (along with a confident wave), we got by with little resistence. I had my camera out, and I guess that’s all the proof they needed.
On arriving, we found this:
Quite honestly, I was more interested in the media than in the story. :)
Oh, quick! Some guy who just came out and started talking really loudly. Let’s interview him!
I swear to God, some idiot reporter kept feeding this guy questions like “Would you say that it’s like Communist Russian inside the offices?” And he’d respond by repeating her question: “Yes. Yes I would say it’s like Communist Russia inside, because…”
I thought briefly about yelling out something like “Felix Jung, Q101 Reporter. Who are you? Where are you going?” But then I thought better of it, and just fell back.
