Wallet, Recovered

Matt’s parents were kind enough to drive me back out (way out) to the Jo-Ann’s Fabric store, to recover my wallet. When I showed up, the woman I spoke to called someone in back, and a guy showed up with my wallet (and this piece of paper tucked in front of the bills).

He handed it to me, and was walking away when I asked him if he wanted to question me, see if I knew what was inside the wallet. He stopped, looked at me and asked “Do you want me to?”

As I recited some of the cards inside, and as this guy was half-heartedly checking… I thought to myself that perhaps living in Chicago has hardened me. Have I become more wary of people? Have I become more distrustful? On looking at this piece of paper, I realized that someone had written down the date, the amount in the wallet, and gotten two other people to sign the thing, as witnesses.

Whether it’s Ohio or not, here’s one thing I know: the folks at Jo-Ann Fabric’s are honest as all get-out.

Meant to take a picture of this yesterday. Matt and Juliet gave me a copy of Ted Kooser’s Flying at Night, as a sort of thank-you for visiting them. I’m a big fan of Ted Kooser, and this was just an awesome gift to receive.
