HEL LOOKS: Street Fashion Photos from Helsinki, Finland

HEL LOOKS is a site that showcases street fashion from Helsinki, Finland. I’m mentioning this site more for the photography than the fashion, truth be told. While there are tons of photos of various clothing styles here, it’s the images themselves that drew me to (and kept me at) this site.
Almost all the shots are framed in a similar manner, and this repeated presentation allows you to focus on the variations between each person/photograph. I couldn’t help but see a great deal of each person in these photos – facial expressions, location/context, body language and posture, etc. I wondered who these people were, what they were doing prior to being photographed, where they were going.
While this site is technically focused on fashion, it struck a chord with me as someone who is into repetition and variation. It made me think back to my You Are I Am experiment, where I consciously tried to frame each photograph in the same way, with writing being the main variant between each image.
