Happy Birthday, America!
Liz and I had originally planned to go back to Indy to visit my family (and to help celebrate my sister’s birthday). But we were both feeling a little run down lately, and decided to stay in/home for the weekend.
We made some dinner, and as we were cooking we could hear fireworks start to go off in the distance. We took our food outside, and climbed up the back stairs and sat there near the top. We got a semi-view of the surrounding neighborhood firework displays, and chatted a bit with some of our new neighbors (Kathy and Matt).
I was reminded a bit of 2006, where Liz and I sat on her back porch and watched the Chicago skyline from afar. Tonight was very subdued, and in a weird way… somewhat intimate. There was a lot of noise and commotion, but the two of us were quietly watching things together.
I’m sad we didn’t end up going to Indy, as I’m sure there was yet another magnificent Fireworks display there.
Next year… there needs to be more fireworks. Or rather, more fireworks that I’m directly responsible for. It’s technically a Chinese thing, after all.
Happy Birthday, America, you big, great, fantastic country, you!
