Nothing Matters When We’re Dancing

I’ve been revisiting The Magnetic Fields recently – and specifically their album 69 Love Songs. While I’m not crazy about every single one of these tracks, the ones I do like, I love. They’re the kinds of songs that I can listen to, over and over and over again.

I first heard about the band while in grad school, but didn’t really get into them until I left Columbus, OH and arrived in Chicago. Whenever I hear this album, it makes me think of my early days in the city, newly arrived and wide-eyed.

While digging around YouTube for live performances by the band, I came across this fantastic video by YouTube user claytonbanks. It features video of Marge and Gower Champion, set to the song Nothing Matters When We’re Dancing. It’s spot-on, and wonderful to hear/see.

Interesting side note: Claudia Gonson (who performed with the Magnetic Fields) was also included in the book I was in: Cassette From My Ex. In fact, she was even interviewed as part of a promo video for the book, which you can view here.

And just in case you’re curious, you can read the story I contributed to the project. It’s about a girl named Dzintra and a band named Queensrÿhe. You can probably guess how it ends…
