William Elliott Whitmore: Hell or High Water
Lately, I’ve been really digging William Elliott Whitmore and his album Animals in the Dark.
His voice is incredibly striking – deep and scratchy, and sort of tugs at your insides. Hearing him makes me think of Tom Waits and Tom Jones, and a whole hell of a lot of cigarettes. I don’t know what it is, but I’ve been finding myself looping his track “Hell or High Water” an awful lot, this week.
With the approach of Fall, this seems like a perfect song to me. I’m imagining being in a car, a long stretch of highway before me and a lit cigarette between my fingers. I’m imagining headlights on the road and someone waiting for me, a little over an hour away.
