Joss Whedon’s 2013 Commencement Speech at Wesleyan University: You Are All Going to Die

Writer and all-around awesome guy Joss Whedon gave this year’s 2013 Commencement speech at Wesleyan University.

You have, in fact, already begun to die. You look great. Don’t get me wrong. And you are youth and beauty. You are at the physical peak. Your bodies have just gotten off the ski slope on the peak of growth, potential, and now comes the black diamond mogul run to the grave.

And the weird thing is your body wants to die. On a cellular level, that’s what it wants. And that’s probably not what you want.

I enjoyed a lot of the opening half – and had several genuine LOL moments (including the one where he mentions Robert Frost’s body). In posting this, I’m realizing I’m quite the fan-boy. It seems that I like his voice as a writer so much, I’m happy to hear anything new by him… and that includes commencement speeches.

So far, I don’t think I’ve encountered one thing he’s done that I haven’t liked.
